UK Horse Races - The Main Flat Racing Group 1 RacesThe flat season really gets under way with the two Group 1 Horse races at Newmarket's Rowley Mile. They are the 1,000 Guineas and the 2,000 Guineas for the two year old fillies and colts respectively. These are the main Spring Group 1 races with the only other one being the Group 1 Lockinge at Newbury in May. The Epsom meeting in early June really gets the top class racing into the swing of things as it hosts the Coronation Cup for older horses as well as the mile and a half classics The Oaks and The Derby. These are probably for most prestigious horse races to win by any three year old with the possible exception of the Arc in France in the Autumn. Royal Ascot then hosts an array of fine Group 1 races including King's Stand Stakes, St. James's Palace Stakes, Queen Anne Stakes, Prince of Wales's Stakes, Coronation Stakes, Golden Jubilee Stakes as well as the Ascot Gold Cup. Other notable Group Ones in July include the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown, the Falmouth Stakes, the July Cup (both held at Newmarket's July Festival meeting). The party then goes on back at Ascot with the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, followed in August by some great racing at Glorious Goodwood. Notable Group 1 horse races during this festival include the Sussex Stakes and the Nassau Stakes. The Autumn featues include Doncaster's St. Leger as well as the Cheveley Park and Middle Park at Newmarket - both two year old races which provide pointers for the following year's classic races. The season of Group One races finally comes to an end with the Racing Post Trophy, a useful pointer to the following year's Derby.
